FAQ about the People's Veto

"I read that several "groups" have started a People's Veto. How does this affect the process?
Two applications have been filed with the Secretary of State. But there is only ONE people's veto. All the petitions turned into the Secretary of State calling for a veto will count toward the required number. The Secretary of State does not care who turns them in or what organization they represent. In fact, the Secretary of State does not recognize any organization in this regard. The application is signed by six citizens.

The important thing is to be sure the petitions are filled out properly by registered voters.

"Will we vote on this in November"?

By law, petitions have to be submitted within 90 days after the legislature adjourns. The legislature is expected to adjourn in mid-June. But in order to have time to validate petitions and print ballots, it must be done sooner.

To qualify for the November ballot, petitions need to be submitted to the Secretary of State around the first week in August.

To qualify for the June, 2010 ballot, petitions must be submitted by early September.

"Can Petitions be Circulated in Churches"

Absolutely. If your church would like to host a training session for petition circulators, please let us know.

"Where can we get petitions?"

Several organizations will be circulating petitions and gathering signatures. We recommend emailing your name, address and telephone number to veto1020@gmail.com if you are willing to help circulate petitions. Petitions and instructions will be available soon.
