Support the Maine Marriage Alliance

Welcome!

The Maine Marriage Alliance is a growing coalition of organizations, churches, and individuals who believe:

  • Maine has a fundamental and compelling interest in preserving the definition of marriage as the union of a man and a woman.

  • Our communities flourish socially, economically and in many other ways due to the stability and strength that marriage provides to children, families, and communities.

  • Only an amendment to the Maine Constitution will protect marriage from judges and legislators who would seek to overturn our Defense of Marriage (DOMA) laws.

Proposed Amendment to the Maine Constitution

“Inasmuch as marriage is the legal union of only one man and one woman as husband and wife, no other legal union that is treated as marriage or the substantial equivalent thereof shall be valid or recognized.”
